Unlike a lot of folks who comment on the traffic and parking problems on the island, I’m not going to point fingers and say that the fault lies with someone else. We all contribute to the challenges of driving and parking here and we all can formulate a way to lessen our impact. Here’s what I’m doing.
1. I took our third car off island and it serves as our transportation when we go to Boston or beyond. This reduces the impact on Nantucket and makes off-island travel cheaper and easier.
2. My first choice for transportation in an and out of town and to the grocery store is my electric cargo bike. I can get eight bags of groceries in the front bucket.
3. When I do drive my truck, it’s most often to take my dog to a remote part of the island where there is no traffic problem.
4. I take the WAVE bus whenever I can. It’s free. It’s amazing. The drivers are friendly. It’s a 7-minute walk from my house.
5. I walk a good deal. Walking is good for me and it’s free.
